Drilling A Well -- By Meg

A couple of weeks ago my dad arranged for a well to be dug in our yard
because we have major water issues.
So the big truck with a big drill on the back came to our house and started drilling our well.
We had many issues but they eventually hit water....not very much water, but it was water.
Here was the process.

First they had to back into our yard.
Then, they figured out where they are going to drill.
Then, they put down the big thing that drills.
Then, they hooked on a big, long metal rod.

Then, they put the bit on.

Then, they started drilling.

They drilled through dirt.

They drilled through granite.

They added on more long metal rods.

And they continue to drill all day long.

This is how deep they went until they hit water.
So first the bit got stuck in the ground.
Then, they drilled for two days and they only hit a little water.
But, after a few days the hole really started to fill up.

After they left, we had dust and dirt EVERYWHERE!

After about 2 weeks we are finally getting to a point where we don't slide across the room!
Soon the men will return and put a pump in the well and pipe the water to our cistern.

Hugs,
Meg
