Taking the Gospel to Temane

Temane is a neighborhood/village on the far edge of what we think of being Quelimane. It is about a 30 minute drive from our house. To get there we go past our church in the community of Coalane.

A few months ago a Believer came to the church in Coalane. He and his family had moved from an area on the other side of Quelimane to Temane. His family had attended a strong Baptist Church in that community. They were looking for a new place to worship.

He ask if it would be possible to have someone come and teach and evangelize in Temane. It is quite a long walk to the church in Coalane. That is how the work there got started.

Not long after that Lee and his teacher, who is the pastor at Coalane, began going there on Thursday afternoons to teach. They gather in the yard of this Believer.

Now, all of our family is going on Thursdays!

Two weeks ago we took the Jesus film out to this community one Saturday night. We had a great crowd to hear and see the greatest story ever told!

Heading out of Quelimane
Further out
More sights heading out of town.
Because it was  Saturday afternoon, the streets were very busy!
Coming into Temane
Loaded down with the equipment to show the film
Getting the frisbees out and starting to play with the kids
The men starting to get the equipment down
Meghan moving the kids to an open area so the film can be set up
Meghan and Emma playing with the kids
Having fun!
These two....watching everything that is going on...buddies
Just about ready
Painting nails....always a favorite!
We quickly lost daylight while doing nails.
Look at the little girls showing each other their nails.
The film was a great! The generator cut off a couple of times, but Lee was able to get it going again! Several people made decisions for Christ. We pray that these were real and that the people will come and join the other Belivers for the teaching time.

The next Thursday Lee had commitments to go with the other missionaries to another location for local leadership training. So the girls and I went on with our pastor friend to Temane.  We took the camera along so you could see what it is like.

They got the frisbees out again to play with the kids when we first got there.
They really love this simple toy!
Sheldon and our friend and language helper, Flora.
This is the meeting place under the trees.
Only a few are here so far...
A few more
About 30 minutes later....a nice little crowd has gathered and we are starting with a song
This is what it looks like
My two champions! Sitting on a sack in the dirt with the others.
The whole time we met, this little girl was pounding rice behind us.
Working really hard!

Keep praying for these believers. They will have their first worship service this Sunday. They have been asking and asking for someone to come and lead worship on Sundays and this week it starts. They are very excited! I will keep you updated...
